About this technique

Why we recommend it

Direct-to-film (DTF) is the technology that finally killed the colour-count limit. We print your artwork — full CMYK plus white base — onto a release film, dust it with hot-melt adhesive powder, and heat-press it onto your garment. The result: photographic detail, no colour separations, no minimums on complexity, on virtually any fabric you can press.

Best for

When this is the right choice

  • Photographic logos and gradients
  • Small runs of 1–50 pieces with rich detail
  • Mixed garment orders — same transfer applies to tees, hoodies, caps, bags
  • Replacement programmes where you need transfers on stock and press on demand
Process

From file to finished garment

File optimisation

Your artwork is colour-profiled for our printers — we sharpen edges and balance the white-ink underbase so colours stay vivid on dark fabric.

Print & powder

A high-resolution print is laid down with a precise white underbase, then coated in hot-melt adhesive powder and cured in an oven.

Press

Transfers are pressed at 150 °C for 12 seconds with firm pressure. We can also ship loose transfers and a press recipe for in-house application.

Peel & finish

Cold-peel reveals a soft, durable print with no excess film around the design.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

When should I choose DTF over screen print?
Pick DTF for full-colour artwork, small batches, very fine detail, or when you need the same artwork on multiple fabric types. Screen print wins on volume and durability for solid designs.
Does the print feel like plastic?
Modern DTF films are flexible and breathable — they stretch with the garment. On thicker prints there is a slight film feel, but nothing like the old plastisol transfers from the early 2000s.
